Cross-examined.
When I turned back I had only taken one step. I stood back when I heard the Chinese calling "Seize him". I stepped back so
he dould not see. Then I could not see down Wardley Street. He was about 5 yards off from me, as far as I am to the jury box. I saw the crowd running. I can't say how many I saw the crowd in Des Voeux Road on the tram lines before I saw the prisoner. I then turned back and then afterwards Instruck the prisoner. I did not see any crowd in Wardley Street. I don't know if they were running in Wardley Street. If I got a punch in the face I should not try to get away, I did not see Captain Morgan until after I knocked the person down, nor did I see Mr. Green than, They were too fer down for me to see.
(Court compliments witness on the part which he played in the
matter irrespective of whether the man was the murderer or not) To the Court.
I understand Chinese well. When I knocked down the prisoner he said nothing. I am sure of it.
